Why is my Facebook ad not delivering? The six usual causes
2026-08-04Your campaign says active but nothing is happening. Here is the checklist, in the order the causes actually occur.
An ad that is switched on but spending nothing is one of the most common and most frustrating states in Meta advertising, largely because Ads Manager rarely tells you which of several very different problems you have. Work through these in order.
1. No payment method on the ad account
This is the most common cause and the least obvious, because Meta accepts your campaign, marks it active, and then quietly refuses to spend. The ad set usually reports as pending billing information.
Check the billing centre for the ad account itself, not your personal Facebook account. Add a card and delivery generally resumes on its own within an hour, with nothing to rebuild.
2. The ad is still in review
Every new ad passes through Meta's review queue. It usually clears within a few hours and almost always within twenty-four. There is nothing to do but wait, and editing the ad restarts the clock.
3. The ad is off while the campaign is on
Meta has three levels, campaign, ad set and ad, each with its own switch. All three must be on. A campaign showing as active over a paused ad delivers nothing, and the campaign row still looks healthy.
This one catches people constantly, especially after duplicating a campaign, because copies frequently arrive paused.
4. The schedule has already ended
If the ad set has an end date in the past it will not deliver, regardless of every switch being on. Check the schedule rather than assuming it runs forever.
5. The ad set has no ads in it
An ad set with zero ads attached is a container with nothing to show. It looks active and spends nothing. Common after deleting a creative you meant to replace.
6. The audience is too small or the budget too low
A very narrow audience combined with a tiny budget can leave Meta unable to find anyone to serve. If your audience is under a few tens of thousands of people, widen it. If your daily budget is a couple of euros, raise it or accept very slow delivery.
If all six check out and you still see nothing after twenty-four hours, look at the account status itself: Meta occasionally restricts accounts, and that surfaces separately from the campaign.
